Collegiate Track & Field
Competing on a full athletic scholarship in the throwing events built discipline, resilience, and respect for long-term goals.
Board-certified pediatrician. Practicing neonatologist. Former collegiate athlete. Former math and science teacher. Educator at heart.
Dr. Porsha Butler is a board-certified pediatrician and practicing neonatologist caring for premature and critically ill newborns in the NICU. Her clinical work is grounded in high-acuity newborn medicine, collaboration, and family-centered communication.
She is equally passionate about health literacy: giving families enough context to understand what is happening, ask useful questions, and feel included in the care of their baby. That commitment is one of the foundations of PorshaMD.
Before the NICU came athletics, teaching, persistence, medical school, pediatrics, and fellowship. Each chapter left something behind that still shows up in how Dr. Butler works today.
Competing on a full athletic scholarship in the throwing events built discipline, resilience, and respect for long-term goals.
Teaching strengthened the ability to break down difficult concepts without talking down to the person learning them.
Medical training deepened a commitment to service, representation, and meeting people where they are.
Pediatrics became the clinical foundation for caring for children while partnering closely with families.
Fellowship at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital focused that path on premature and critically ill newborns.
Today, medicine, education, research, communication, and family support meet at the bedside.
Accurate information does not need to be unnecessarily difficult to understand.
Parents deserve context, clarity, and room to ask questions about their baby’s care.
Teaching remains part of the work, whether the learner is a family, student, resident, fellow, or colleague.
Healthcare works better when people feel seen, respected, and included in the conversation.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Butler enjoys traveling, working out, gaming, trying good food, and spending time with family. As a former athlete, she is also reconnecting with fitness and intentionally prioritizing her own health and wellness.
PorshaMD exists so those parts of life can sit beside medicine instead of being hidden behind it.
